Melbourne

Our next adventure in Australia started in Melbourne. We managed to pack all our stuff inclusive our tent and the air mattress, and we flew over to Melbourne without any problems. Because of Easter weekend, it was hard to find a host, so we stayed at a nice hostel in the city district St. Kilda. The same evening, we explored the beach at the Breakwater Wildlife Area close to St. Kilda and we saw surprisingly a lot of penguins coming back from their foraging. It was a whole penguin colony of about 1500 animals, and they made a lot of noise. We were so happy to see wild animals already on our first day in Australia. This adventure could not have started better for us. That’s why we had to toast with our first Australian beer back in the hostel. 😊 The next two day’s we did sightseeing in the huge city centre of Melbourne. We explored the St. Kilda Road market, the busy Chinatown with his nice rooftop bars, we went to the Rod Laver Tennis Arena, discovered some very nice street art districts, enjoyed the sunset at the Brighton Beach with his famous Brighton Beach Boxes and had good food at Nando’s burger restaurant. We enjoyed two day’s staying in a big city with a wonderful skyline.

Unser nächstes Abenteuer startete in Melbourne. Wir hatten es geschafft, all unsere Sachen, inklusive Zelt und Luftmatratze einzupacken. Da gerade Ostern war, war es nicht ganz einfach einen Host zu finden. Zum Glück haben wir ein tolles Hostel im Stadtteil St. Kilda gefunden. Gleich am ersten Abend, erkundeten wir den St. Kilda Strand inklusive der Breakwater Wildlife Area. Zu unserer Überraschung sahen wir viele kleine Pinguine, die gerade vom Fische fangen zurückkamen. Laut den Aufpassern, seien es etwa 1500 Pinguine. Wir waren total überwältigt, dass wir am ersten Tag in Australien, gleich so viele Pinguine sehen konnten. Dieses Abenteuer hätte nicht besser starten können. Die nächsten zwei Tage verbrachten wir mit Sightseeing durch das grosse Zentrum von Melbourne. Wir sahen den St. Kilda Markt, das beschäftigte Chinatown mit seine tollen Rooftop Bars, die Rod Laver Tennis Arena, absolut tolle Strassenkunst und den berühmten Brighton Strand mit seinen farbigen Strandhüttchen. Zum Abendessen gab es dann einen deliziösen Nando’s Burger. 😉 Wir genossen die zwei Tage in einer grossen Stadt mit toller Skyline.
