South Taiwan – Tainan & Kaohsiung

Tainan

Unsere Entdeckungsreise nach taiwanesischem Essen setzten wir in Tainan fort. Tainan ist die älteste Stadt in Taiwan und hat uns bisher auch am besten gefallen. Sie hat einen speziellen Charme, viele schöne Tempel und Coffee-Shops an jeder Ecke. Da wir bei unserem nächsten Host von Couchsurfing leider vor verschlossenen Türen standen, und auch keine Antwort mehr von ihm erhalten haben, mussten wir uns kurzfristig ein Hostel suchen. Dies zu unserem Glück, denn das Hostel «unefamilletainan» (Vorschlag eines anderen Couchsurfing-Freundes) war richtig toll. Gemütlich, sauber, schöne Inneneinrichtung und zugleich ein Coffee-Shop. 😊 Die Besitzerin hat ein altes Gebäude ganz alleine neu umgestaltet, und das nach unserem Empfinden, richtig gut. Nach der Tempel-Erkundung zu Fuss sind wir mit dem Bus zur am Hafen gelegenen Altstadt Anping (auch genannt als Hafen mit 5 Kanälen) gefahren. Anping besitzt den ältesten Tempel von ganz Taiwan und eine Festung, die im 16.Jh. von den Holländern erbaut wurde. Von da aus sind wir zu Fuss zum Yuguangdao Strand gelaufen. Den Abend haben wir beim schön beleuchteten Chihkan Tower verbracht und nebenbei konnten wir ein schönes Live-Konzert geniessen.

In Tainan we continued to explore more Taiwan food. Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan and we liked it the most. This city has a special charm, many wonderful temples and a lot of coffee shops. Unfortunately, we were standing in front of closed doors and haven’t received any answer till now from our next host, so we had to look for a hostel in Tainan. We found a great hostel called “unefamilletainan”. This hostel was cozy, clean, fancy interior design and it also has a coffee shop in the first floor. The owner, a young girl from Tainan, made everything by herself. She rebuilt an old house into a very nice hostel. The next day we explored all the nice temples in Tainan by foot. After we took the bus to the old town Anping, also called the port with the 4 channels. In Anping there is located the oldest temple in whole Taiwan and the Anping fort, which was built from the Dutch in the 16^th century. From there we walked to the nice Yuguang beach (all these advices we got from our CS friend Lu). In the evening we went to the Chikhan tower. It was nice lightened and there was a live concert outside. We have spent some time there to listen and hangout.

 

Kaohsiung

In Kaohsiung verbrachten wir einen Tag. Wir liefen entlang dem Love River zum Kunst Viertel mit schön bemalten Häusern. Danach fuhren wir mit dem modernen, elektrischen Tram durch das architektonisch spannendste Viertel. Viele moderne Häuser sind dort noch am Entstehen. In ein paar Jahren, werden wir dieses Viertel wohl nicht mehr erkennen. Nach unserem Mittagessen genossen wir den Central Park in der Mitte der Stadt. Wegen dem Smog konnten wir den Himmel und die Sonne nicht wirklich sehen.  Das ist auch der Grund, warum uns diese Stadt nicht wirklich gefallen hat. Deshalb entschieden wir uns schon am Nachmittag nach Taitung weiter zu fahren.

In Kaohsiung we spend one day. We walked along the love river to the art district with nice painted houses. After we took the modern tram trough a district with many nice architectonic and interesting buildings. The whole district was almost under construction. I guess, in some years, we won’t recognize this district anymore. After street lunch, we enjoyed some time in the central park in the middle of the city. Because of the smog, we couldn’t see the sun and the sky. That’s also the reason, why we don’t really like this city so much. We decided the same day, to continue travelling to Taitung.
