Katoomba (Blue Mountains)

The Blue Mountains are a region at the west end of Sydney and their landscape is very impressive with interesting stone formations like the famous ‘’three sisters’’ stone pillars. When we arrived in Katoomba, at around 7pm, it was already dark, and our campground already closed. We drove to Blackheath to a free campground with an adventurous access road in the middle of a forest. After a delicious dinner with a little bit of wine, we enjoyed the starry sky. Because the starry sky was so beautiful and bright this night, Saby and Natascha decided to sleep outside under the stars. The next day, we did a great walk through a Grand Canyon, surrounded of big eucalyptus trees, plus an amazing water fall. The blue mountains are awesome, that’s why we spent a second night there. But we changed our campground, because we wanted to have a shower. 😉 We made a second nice walk to the Wentworth Falls with an amazing view.

Die Blue Mountains ist eine Region westlich von Sydney mit einer sehr eindrucksvollen Landschaft. Eindrücklich sind vor allem die steilen Felswände mit interessanten Steinformationen wie die «Three Sisters». Als wir in Katoomba ankamen, um ca. 19 Uhr, war es bereits dunkel und alle Campingplätze bereits voll oder geschlossen. Wir fuhren deshalb nach Blackheath zu einem Gratiscampingplatz mit einer abenteuerlichen Zufahrtsstrasse mitten im Wald. Nach dem feinen Abendessen mit ein paar Gläsern Wein, genossen wir den tollen Sternenhimmel. Da die Sterne so klar und hell waren, entschieden Saby und Natascha diese Nacht im Freien unter dem schönen Sternenhimmel zu schlafen. 😊 Am nächsten Tag machten wir eine tolle Wanderung durch einen Grand Canyon, umgeben von sehr hohen Eukalyptusbäumen sowie zu einem tollen Wasserfall. Da uns die Blue Mountains so gut gefielen, verbrachten wir eine weitere Nacht dort, um auch am nächsten Tag nochmals eine schöne Wanderung zu den Wentworth Falls zu machen. Diesmal übernachteten wir jedoch in Katoomba in einem Campingplatz mit Dusche und Küche.

Sydney

After our last hike in the Blue Mountain National Park we drove through the whole city of Sydney to the Bondi Beach. Fortunately, Saby met the English guy Adam from Sydney before in New Zealand during her hike on the “Tongariro Alpine Crossing”. We were so happy, that we could stay overnight at his place. This was our last evening for the three of us, so we enjoyed it together with Adam in a pub with drinking beer and eating burgers. The next day we had to say good-bye from Saby. She stayed two more days in Sydney at Adam’s place before flying back home, but we (Claudia and Natascha) continued travelling up north that day. We’ll spending some more time in Sydney in the end of May without campervan.

Nach der letzten Wanderung im Blue Mountain NP fuhren wir mitten durch die Stadt Sydney zum Bondi Beach. Da Saby auf ihrer Wanderung beim «Tongariro Alpine Crossing» in Neuseeland den Engländer Adam, aus Sydney, kennengelernt hatte, konnten wir glücklicherweise bei ihm übernachten. Es war unser letzter Abend mit Saby und so verbrachten wir diesen zusammen mit Adam in einer Bar. Am nächsten Tag mussten wir uns dann leider richtig verabschieden von Saby. Sie blieb noch zwei Tage bei Adam in Sydney bevor sie heimflog. Da wir Ende Mai nochmals in Sydney sein werden ohne unseren Campervan, entschieden wir uns weiter in Richtung Norden zu reisen.

Newcastle

In Newcastel we made a nice stroll along the coast with many nice beaches to Nobby’s lighthouse at the end of Nobby’s beach. On the way back, suddenly a white-black coloured bird flew into Natascha’s eye. Luckily nothing happened, except for the shock. After we watched, how a hang glider started flying we continued driving to Bulahdelah to a campground behind an Australian bowling centre. The bowling centres in Australia looks quite different then we are used to them. In Australia they play bowling on a huge green grass field and it reminds us of “Boccia”. This evening at the campground we met a friendly Australian family, they were travelling through Australia as well. We spend a nice evening with them talking to each other, sitting at a bonfire and warming up our legs. 😊

In Newcastel machten wir einen schönen Spaziergang entlang der Küste vorbei an einigen Stränden bis zum Nobby’s Leuchtturm. Auf dem Rückweg, flog ganz unerwartet ein schwarz-weisser Vogel in Natascha’s Auge. Abgesehen vom kleinen Schock, ist jedoch nichts passiert. Nachdem wir noch einem Drachenflieger beim Abflug zusehen konnten fuhren wir weiter nach Bulahdelah zu einem Campingplatz direkt hinter einem australischen Bowlingcenter. Diese Bowlingcenter sehen in Australien etwas anders aus, als wir uns das gewohnt sind. Bowling wird auf einer grossen grünen Fläche gespielt und erinnerte uns an «Bocchia». Auf diesem Campingplatz haben wir eine freundliche australische Familie kennengelernt, die ebenfalls gerade durch ganz Australien reisen. Es war ein super toller Abend mit tollen Gesprächen und einem schönen Feuer, das unsere Beine wärmte.
