Around Wellington

Cape Palliser

Nach der Verabschiedung von Ian machten wir uns auf den Weg ganz in den Süden der Nordinsel. Wir fuhren zuerst nach Palmerston North, wo wir einen Mittagessen Stopp einlegten. Danach fuhren wir über den Rimutaka Pass zum Cape Palliser und fanden dort viele neuseeländische Seelöwen vor. Obwohl es zu Beginn regnete, machten wir eine kurze Wanderung zu den Putangirua Pinnacles, einer Gesteinsformation, die wie turmartige Gebilde (ähnlich wie die Hoodoo’s in den USA) aussehen. Hier wurden ebenfalls einige Szenen für den Film Lord of the Rings gedreht.

After saying good bye to Ian, we drove to the very south from the North Island of New Zealand. First, to Palmerston North for lunch, then over the Rimutaka pass to Cape Palliser. There, we found some New Zealand seals (kekeno’s). Though it rains in the beginning, we made a short walk to the Putangirua Pinnacles, a special stone formation, with tall and thin spires, like the Hoodoo’s in the US. A part of the movie Lord of the Rings was filmed on this location.

 

Wellington

Bevor wir die Fähre auf die Südinsel nahmen, verbrachten wir noch einen Tag in Wellington selbst, um die Stadt zu erkunden. Als wir der Te Papa Lagune entlangliefen, fanden wir ein sehr lebendiges Wellington vor. Im Waitangi Skate Park wurde gerade ein Skate Wettkampf abgehalten und im Frank-Kitts-Park fand das Dragon Boat Festival statt und es wurde wie wild um die Wette gerudert. Nach Empfehlung von Ian gingen wir im Nando’s Restaurant Mittagessen und assen ein halbes Huhn, was seehr lecker war! 😊 In der bekannten Cuba-Street trafen wir wieder einmal einen Night market an. Bevor wir uns jedoch durch die Stände probierten, genossen wir noch die tolle Aussicht vom nahe gelegenen Mount Victoria Aussichtspunkt. Wieder einmal genossen wir einen «Trdlnik», Natascha’s Lieblingsdessert aus Tschechien. Am nächsten morgen früh fuhren wir bei wunderbarem Wetter mit der Interislander Fähre nach Picton auf die Südinsel von Neuseeland.

Before, we took the ferry to the South Island, we spend a day in Wellington. While we strolled along the Te Papa Lagoon, we saw a very active Wellington. In the Waitangi Skate Park, we watched a skate competition and, in the Frank-Kitts-Park took place the Dragon Boat Festival. At the recommendation of Ian, we ate a half chicken at Nando’s restaurant for lunch. It was excellent. After visiting the Mount Victoria viewpoint, we strolled through the Wellington Night market in the famous Cuba street. We ate delicious Chimney cake. Natascha’s favourite Czech dessert. 😉 The next morning, we took the Interislander ferry to Picton on the South Island of New Zealand.
